Maninder Kaur, a dynamic young Hospital Administration graduate, is making waves in the healthcare sector with her ambitious plans to transform her father’s 25-year-old dental hospital into a world-class healthcare facility. As the only daughter of Dr. Sukhvinder Singh, a respected dental surgeon, Kaur has stepped into a leadership role with a clear vision: to modernize and elevate the hospital to meet global standards of care. In an exclusive interview, she shares her journey, challenges, and plans for the future.
Interviewer: Maninder, you’ve taken on a significant role in your family’s hospital. What inspired you to pursue healthcare management, especially after your initial goal of becoming a doctor?
Maninder Kaur: It was definitely a tough decision. Like many others, I dreamed of becoming a doctor, but when I couldn’t secure a seat in medical school, I realized there were other ways to contribute to healthcare. That’s when I turned to Hospital Administration. I understood that hospitals don’t just need great doctors—they need strong leadership and efficient management to provide excellent care. After completing my course, I joined my father’s hospital, and I’ve been working to make it more efficient, modern, and patient-focused ever since.
Interviewer: You’ve already implemented several significant changes at the hospital. Can you tell us more about these initiatives?
Maninder Kaur: Absolutely. One of the first things I did was integrate advanced dental technology. We invested in cutting-edge equipment like 3D imaging systems and digital radiography. This technology allows our doctors to provide faster and more accurate diagnoses, which ultimately improves patient care.
Additionally, we introduced electronic health records (EHR) to streamline our operations. This system has not only made our administrative processes more efficient but has also improved the overall patient experience. We can now offer more personalized care, which I believe is key to building trust with our patients.
Interviewer: What challenges have you faced as you’ve taken on this leadership role?
Maninder Kaur: One of the biggest challenges was modernizing the hospital without disrupting the existing workflow. It’s important to make sure that the doctors and staff are on board with the changes, so I invested a lot of time in staff training and development. We’ve organized continuous professional development programs for our team to keep them updated on the latest advancements in dentistry and healthcare management.
Another challenge is maintaining the family-oriented, community-focused care that my father built over the last 25 years. While we are modernizing, it’s essential that we continue serving the community with the same dedication and compassion.
Interviewer: You’ve mentioned that your long-term vision is to bring global best practices to the hospital. What does that look like in practical terms?
Maninder Kaur: For me, it’s about benchmarking ourselves against the best healthcare institutions in the world. We’ve already started implementing lean management techniques to reduce waste and improve efficiency. I’ve also been studying international models of patient care and hospital operations, which I hope to implement here.
We’re also looking at expanding our services. I’m excited about our upcoming plans to open a new wing dedicated to cosmetic dentistry and dental surgery. My goal is to attract not just local patients but also those from surrounding regions, and eventually, to position our hospital as a destination for specialized dental care.
Interviewer: Sustainability has become a growing focus in healthcare. Is this something you’re incorporating into your plans?
Maninder Kaur: Yes, sustainability is very important to me. We’ve started by making small changes, such as installing energy-efficient lighting and reducing our paper usage through digital record-keeping. We’re also working on a comprehensive waste management system to minimize our environmental footprint. It’s a long-term effort, but I believe that healthcare facilities have a responsibility to operate in an environmentally friendly manner.
Interviewer: With so much on your plate, what drives you to keep pushing forward?
Maninder Kaur: My father is my biggest inspiration. Watching him build this hospital from the ground up, serving the community for over two decades, has instilled in me a sense of responsibility. I’m driven by the desire to take his legacy forward and to give our patients the best care possible. Our hospital has served the community for so long, and I want to ensure it continues to do so, but on a much larger scale and with even better services.
Interviewer: What are your plans for the future?
Maninder Kaur: In the short term, I want to continue modernizing the hospital and expanding our services. The long-term goal is to transform our hospital into a center of excellence, offering specialized dental care that rivals the best in the world. I’m also looking at potential collaborations with international healthcare institutions to bring more expertise and innovation to our hospital.
