Love rarely ends when a relationship does. Sometimes it lingers—in memories, in scents, in quiet moments when the past suddenly feels present again. In Lover, author Vennela explores the fascinating psychological truth that we often fall in love not just with people, but with the versions of them that our minds create and preserve.
Blending romance with psychological intrigue, Lover is a story about memory, perception, and the hidden emotional landscapes that shape the way we experience love.
1.What inspired you to write this particular book, and how did the idea for the story come to you?
I have always loved telling stories and watching them unfold. Through my life experiences and emotions, I realized something interesting—we often fall in love with versions of people. The version we love is sometimes more shaped by our memories and feelings than by the actual person.
This idea fascinated me. After exploring it further through psychological research, I wanted to write a story that felt emotionally real and authentic. I felt that everyone experiences this in some way, and I wanted readers to understand why certain memories and emotions echo within us long after a relationship ends.
I always try to convey a lesson or takeaway through my stories. Every story, for me, should leave the reader with something meaningful to reflect on.
2.Can you share some insights into your writing process? Do you follow a specific routine or ritual?
My writing process is more emotional and creative than structured.
Whenever I feel something strongly, I transform that feeling into writing—whether it becomes an article, a poem, or part of a story. Writing helps me preserve those emotions and moments so they remain alive even when life moves forward and our feelings change.
When I sit down to write, I combine imagination with emotional resonance. I believe a story must feel real to the reader, and that authenticity comes from genuine emotion.
3.The characters in your book are quite distinct and memorable. Are they based on real people?
I love creating unique characters because readers connect with stories through them.
All the characters in my book are fictional, but I design them in ways that feel real and relatable. I want them to feel both extraordinary and familiar—like someone you might meet in everyday life.
When readers connect with a character, they start rooting for them. And when that character achieves something, it feels like a shared emotional journey.
4.Your book explores psychological themes within a love story. What motivated you to dive into this topic?
The idea that we fall in love with versions of people made me curious about the psychology behind emotions and memory.
While researching, I discovered fascinating insights about how sensory memory triggers our emotions and how the subconscious mind often remembers feelings more strongly than facts. Our brain tends to respond to emotions before rational thoughts appear, and it also develops defense mechanisms to protect us from emotional pain.
Exploring the psychology behind love and memory felt incredibly powerful. I wanted readers to feel understood—to realize that their emotions are valid and that there are psychological reasons behind why they feel certain things.
I hope readers walk away feeling more compassionate toward themselves and more curious about their emotional experiences.
5.The world-building in your novel feels immersive. How did you create the atmosphere?
I often use colour psychology while imagining scenes.
Different colours evoke different emotional states. Dark colours can represent intensity, boldness, and strong emotions, while lighter colours bring softness, warmth, and comfort.
When I build a scene, I imagine myself inside that environment and create the atmosphere through colours, textures, and mood. My inspirations come from romance films, music performances, and everyday environments that we all recognize.
The goal is to make readers feel as if they are living inside the moment.
6.How do you balance originality with genre expectations?
Authenticity is very important to me. Even when the tone of the writing shifts to match the plot, I make sure the emotional core of the scene remains consistent.
Because the story combines romance with psychological intensity, maintaining the balance between softness and suspense was challenging. I had to ensure the emotional depth of the romance remained intact while keeping the psychological elements intriguing and mysterious.
7.The pacing keeps readers engaged throughout the story. What techniques did you use?
Two important techniques I focus on are visualization and emotional connection.
First, readers must deeply connect with the characters. When they understand the character’s emotions, they naturally stay invested in the story.
Second, I leave subtle clues in the narrative—sometimes allowing readers to realize things before the character does. This creates anticipation and keeps readers emotionally involved as they wait to see how the character will uncover the truth.
8.In today’s rapidly evolving media landscape, how do you keep traditional storytelling relevant?
No matter how much the media evolves, readers still want one thing—to feel something when they read a story.
That emotional connection will always remain timeless.
In Lover, I tried to bring something fresh by combining psychology with romance while still preserving the emotional depth that readers love in storytelling. The goal is to offer something new while keeping the heart of the story relatable and meaningful.
