The genre was non-fiction and self-help, it blew her image up in the school and even in her home town Dehradun. After the debut book, urja took a long 2- year break to focus on her studies, but was hit by depression instead, because of her physical recovery and not being able to write because of the pressure of schooling. “I felt I’ve become stagnant, and I was not going towards my dreams.” She describes it.
After a long break on February 14th 2019 , urja joshi released her second book THE MAGICAL LIFE, which dealt with a mature topic for a writer her age and she discussed various tips and suggestions to make life better in it. She describes it as a project she really respects, as she wrote about the truths of life at a very young age, After the magical life, she had to return to her schooling life as she had to complete her 12th grade and close the chapter of high school in her life . “When I was in class 12th, I became very secure and comfortable person and I have no clue how and why, I wanted to have a backup career for writing, because I was not sure if I will make it. but it was not until the pandemic & lockdown, when not only did my plans of going abroad got cancelled but I got enough time to think, who I really want to be. I brainwashed myself and I was ready to be a risk taker, I decided to go all in writing and I cut my ties off every back up plan that I had for me.” As she adds, she adopted the “if it is meant to be, it will happen” approach towards her dreams. And wrote her most successful work till day, yellow: the verses of hurting & healing. a completely new genre, a mix of poetry and prose with messages of grief and healing after that.
Urja Joshi became the youngest best-selling author of India, and won many awards which made her “best poetry author 2021” and best female author 2020. Mohi symbolizes “the hurting” and Kabir is all about “the healing” that comes after it. A book written and illustrated by the author, which is for everyone. For those who believe in love and compassion and for those who dont. Those who have healed and those who are still in process. Those who aren’t able to move on and those who have successfully done it. It is for the feminists, the activists, the believers, the gender norm shatterers, it is a gift, a book on its journey to make difference in its readers’ life.It is beyond any genre that describes it, Yellow is the revolution, filled with verses about heartbreaks, toxic relationships, self-love, men, rapes, sexuality, depression, self-hate, letting go self and so much more, that you only discover when you unfold the pages of the book. The author wants the readers to consider yellow as their personal diary, where they can fold the pages they like, underline their favourite lines and even mail her if they find something debatable. This poetry collection has beautiful illustrations with every verse and some yellow colored pages which are author’s favourites. The main theme of yellow revolves around self love and self worth and importance of ones own well being, that’s why its not some ordinary romance teen book. It has more of a realistic approach than fictional and talks how love is not always a fairy tale. Since the book has a very strong dual element of first the hurting then the healing namely mohi and Kabir, at the end it is followed by three letters addressed to the self. 1. The letter of apology 2. The letter of love and 3. The letter of hope. All of them are beautifully penned down and captures the feeling of regret, and love one should feel for not others but for themselves as well. Along with poetries the book contains some proses as well on strong subjects like depression and feminism. With all this the book captures a very different kind of transition in love we feel when we are hurt and when we are healed. The healing part of Kabir is very positive and joyful as it gives a hope to the reader who are in the “mohi” phase. The author says she added the dual element to the book to signify there is always a Kabir to mohi and vice versa. Nothing is permanent if you are hurt today, you will not remain the same way forever. The book ends with a poem, urja joshi (author) wrote for her readers, describing how beautiful they are.
