Under the United Nations theme ‘DigitALL: Innovation and Technology for gender equality’ designated this year for International Women’s Day celebrations, World Records Foundation and Auro University Women Development Cell organized a special program to spread awareness for shaping a safer, more inclusive and more equitable digital world for all. Even today, a persistent gender gap in digital access, especially in India keeps women from unlocking the full potential of technology.
Monika Suri, the Head of Women Development Cell of Auro University took the initiative and coordinated with Nihharr Saraswala, the President of World Records Foundation to take this event forward. To celebrate perseverance despite odds and the accomplishments of remarkable women across different arena and to inspire more women path-breakers in every field, World Records Foundation and Auro University felicitated 18 women from diverse backgrounds on the occasion of International Women’s Day. Auro University hosted this event on successful completion of five years of their Women Development Cell.
As it has been said time and again, behind every successful man there is a woman. To practically give a true meaning to this saying, wives of some of the most prominent personalities of Surat were invited and honoured for their unparalleled support to their husbands by undergoing a lot of sacrifices in their personal lives and keeping their minds off from trivial domestic issues so that the male counterpart could focus to the hilt on progress and social welfare of the society.
Noted personalities like Padma Shri Mathurbhai Savani (Chairman – Kiran Multi Super Speciality Hospital), Bharatbhai Shah (Surat Manav Seva Sangh ‘Chhanyado’), Dipakbhai Chokshi (D. Khushbhai Jewellers), Ashokbhai Goyal (Seva Foundation), Keshavbhai Goti (Glostar Diamond), Vinodbhai Agrawal (Laxmi Hari Group), Nareshbhai Godhani & Bharatbhai Mangukiya (Manav Seva Trust), Dr Parul Vadgama (National Jt. Secretary, IMA) and Dr Mitali Garg (Chairperson, Women’s Wing, IMA-Surat) remained present as ‘Special Guests’ for this momentous event. Jashubhai N. Desai (Superintendent of Police – Lajpore Central Jail) was invited as a ‘Chief Guest’ for these celebrations.
Women from three different categories were conferred with special awards. The first category was ‘Unsung Sheroes’, where inspiring women with a lot of challenges in their personal lives chose to serve the society through unswerving passion in their profession. The second category was identifying ‘Sheroes of Heroes’ – spouses of social stalwarts of Surat for their selflessness and supreme sacrifices in their personal lives. The third category was ‘Rising Sheroes’ – budding women entrepreneurs who established their own brands at a young age and successfully navigating it skywards. Auro University Vice Chancellor Prof. Parimal Vyas shared his special insights on ‘Digital Equality’ during this session and Dharmistha Tahilramani, representing World Records Foundation and Amreesh Misra, Registrar of Auro University welcomed the awardees.
